Meet Silja Tirronen, Senior Software Engineer, San Francisco

September 10, 2018

What has you the most excited about joining the Zenefits team?

Learning some Django, making some cool stuff, and meeting my new coworkers!

What are you hoping to accomplish at ZenNation?

I’m excited to reduce the amount of manual work in everyone’s day, both our customers and our teammates 🙂

What is the strangest gift you’ve ever received?

An airplane seatbelt. My friends host an annual event called “the bag party”. In the bag party, each guest must bring a bag containing three good items and three bad items (the items can be absolutely whatever). Through certain logical progression, the items change owners between “winners” and “losers”. Winners get to choose an item from the losers’ bags and the losers have to accept whatever the winners choose to discard. I ended up with an airplane seatbelt. It was strange because I don’t know if it was one of the good items or the bad items.

What’s the best piece of advice that you’ve ever received? Who gave you that advice?

Eat your vegetables. Multiple sources. Brilliant!

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

The ability to teleport people and things. The potential applications are endless! I would start by revolutionizing space exploration.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I try to do a lot of outdoorsy and active stuff to balance the work time which is mostly spent indoors. I like climbing, bike rides, city hikes in SF, forest hikes, trail running, art shows, rock shows… My “weird” hobby is hunting wild mushrooms (the kind you eat for culinary reasons, not the “funky” ones), and when I find some I cook them and eat them!
